Resourceful Earth
With a passion for responsible, sustainable architecture, this project was particularly exciting for SRA Architects. Anaerobic Digestion is perfect for recycling leftover food, manure and green waste. Nature simply re-absorbs it. The challenge was to design in a way that reflected the client’s ethos: reusing resources, reducing waste.
SRA managed the whole environmental and planning package. We designed the construction process to minimise embodied and in-use carbon. We addressed issues such as odour, bio-aerosols, noise, traffic and contamination to minimise the impact on the environment. The facility sits naturally within its Green Belt surroundings.
Education will play a key role in future waste management, this was central to our design. The planned interactive Visitor Centre will inform the public about the fascinating AD process. It will also offer easy access to the woodland to experience natural decomposition in action.
