Milton Park is one of Europe’s largest business communities offering a variety of contemporary workspaces. They needed a cost-efficient scheme to adapt this old warehouse into a variety of self-contained units. And to make them suitable for laboratories, offices or production spaces, adaptability was vital.
As with all SRA projects, we tried to find the most cost-effective approach with minimum use of resources. We quickly established that, with minor repairs, the steel frame and concrete floor could be reused.
Having stripped the building back, we added elegant rendered block walls bordered with a high level continuous strip of polycarbonate glazing. New roof lights maximised natural daylight. We also left ‘soft areas’ so that specialised tenants could install their own extraction equipment. With a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ it’s a great example of how old premises can cost-effectively be made as good as new builds.
