In the modern office, staying cool in summer is more challenging than heating in winter. So we sited the building on an east-west axis with shaded south-facing windows. Inside, exposed concrete soffits absorb heat, while pipes from deep below the building naturally cool air that is then pumped through floor voids. Water for showers is heated by solar energy.

Consequently the building requires little gas or electric heating or cooling, yet will remain warm in winter and cool in summer.

Equal consideration went into refining the workspace to create a modern, healthy environment. The flexible and naturally lit interior carefully complements the sustainable ‘soul’ of the structure.
